Ketsia – 2nd cardiac catheterization

Two weeks ago Ketsia went to the hospital for a CT-scan because the cardiologists wanted to check her heart more precisely. We were told that we should be called in the following two weeks for the results. We decided to go Germany for a church camp with our Munich friends as we had planned long ago… It was there a blessed week. We could see a lot of old friends, could introduce Ketsia to them and could get a really good input. In the mean time we received the result of the CT-scan: Ketsia should go back to the Netherlands for a 2nd cardiac catheterization… We knew something would happen but we though not so quick. The good thing is that we were among our friends who prayed and are praying for Ketsia and for us. It was really a grace to be able to bring this new prayer point with my own mouth and with Ketsia and Lisa by my side.
On Monday 3rd June we were back at the LUMC. Although you know the place, you know some of the people, it is not really easy to bring your child back there. The first day went well and Ketsia did really great.

Then came the evening. Lisa stayed in the « Babyzaal » with Ketsia and I went to the Ronald Mcdonald house… I could not fall asleep so I sought fresh air by walking through the beautiful city of Leiden.

Tuesday 4th June, 8 am. 2nd cardiac catheterization. Ketsia is happy and playing with everything within easy reach. She is slowly realizing that something is coming, till the moment she enters the catheterization lab with people dressed in blue. She’s fighting against the anesthesia, crying a lot. It’s maybe the worse part of a day as parents even if you are close by and holding her hand to try to calm her down…. She eventually sleeps… It’s time to say good-bye and wait.

Everything is now in the hand of God and we are praying that He leads the hands of the doctors there. We decided to wait in the beautiful garden of the Ronald Mcdonald house. We were thankful for the sunny weather and decided to take there some photos in order to « kill » time. We had a very blessed moment just the two of us but the clock’s is ticking and still no call. When we thought it was about time, we walked back to the hospital and as we were on our way my mobile rang: we could pick up Ketsia in the awakening room. What a relief.

It is always a new begin on a journey to « normality » but we are not alone. HE shows us HIS grace everyday and we are so thankful for that. 2nd cardiac catheterization was a success and now the cardiologists understand a little bit more what is going on in Ketsia’s small heart. She is doing great but there are still « things » that should be monitored.

It’s our journey. It can be sometimes hard but it’s ours and we won’t exchange it. We are happy and thankful to be back home now. Thank you again for reading the blog and praying for Ketsia.
