Moving forwards sometime needs time…

We are home and had already the chance to enjoy the autumn (see below). It is so good to be home after such a long time and quite intense period.
But we also had the chance to reflect about the things that happened and the things that are about to come.
As a family we are thankful that nothing severe happened before Ketsia’s surgery.
We are thankful for the surgeons who made an incredible work and for the medical staff who helped us during Ketsia’s stay at the hospital.
We are thankful for all the people who helped us with messages, calls, letters, prayers and other practical support.
As parents we are thankful to have our big girl back for the second time. She is running, laughing and making us proud. We are also thankful for Noémie, who did not have any problems staying with friends and family for so long. And above all we are the Lord thankful:

« Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail.
They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. » Lamentations 3:22-23

These last weeks showed me how quick the plans you make can change. 2015 was an incredible wedding season. I took some crazy pictures, I met wonderful people. I personally think that I brought my photography to a next level. I love my work and my clients too. But even limiting me to 10 weddings a year, the last weeks showed me that it is not the time to go big.
Shooting weddings is great and challenging but also takes you a lot of time away… Time that you cannot have back. While Ketsia was crying and enduring a lot of pain, she only wanted to go to Lisa. I know that every child would rather go to their mum in such a situation. But even if I know that being by her side was already good enough, I still wonder: did I really invest enough time in my children?
Before being a photographer or even a patent examiner, I am Lisa’s husband and Ketsia’s and Noémie’s father. People say, Lisa says, I’m a good father and husband, but could I be a better dad? a better help for my wife?

This is the question I want to pursue in the coming days, weeks, months, years… I want to move forwards but I need time. That’s why I decided to stop shooting weddings.
– How long? At least till Ketsia goes to school, which means no weddings for 2016.
– I’ll be still open for portraits and loveshoots in the Netherlands. I’ll also post travel dates when I visit France and Germany.
I will also use this time to think about the next step my photography should take.
